NSBE was founded in 1971 at Purdue University. It was originally titled Black Society of Engineers, dedicated to the retention of Black engineers in higher education
"to increase the number of culturally responsible Black Engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community."
UCSB's National Society of Black Engineers chapter was founded in the 1980s and has been dedicated to the empowerment of all Black Engineers and STEM students since then.
We provide a direct connect to industry through regional and national conferences. Our members have access to top-tier engineering firms and networking with industry professionals. By participating in the broader NSBE Region 6, our members gain the exposure and confidence needed to succeed in engineering
At NSBE, students find mentorship, academic support, and a supportive community. We welcome all students, and we strive to create a inclusive space for Black and STEM students.
Our mission is to bridge the gap between the classroom and the industry. We provide our members with a comprehensive pipeline for success, including technical workshops, collaborative study halls, and curated resource sharing.
